This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

The Americanization of Edward Bok the autobiography of a Dutch boy fifty years after Edward William Bok Books

This is the best autobiography I have ever read. I can’t believe I have never heard of Edward Bok before. As Editor of the Ladies Home Journal in the early 1900 he changed the look of the American home and then educated women on how to support themselves and the war efforts during the 1 st World War. He was a friend to numerous US presidents and well-known authors and preachers. His work ethic is worth reading about, and his desire to educate as well as entertain made the magazine the first one to ever reach 2 million subscribers! He did not brag about his accomplishments - just continued to tell how each one lead him on to the next helpful series of articles. A sincere man who loved this country.

The Americanization of Edward Bok the autobiography of a Dutch boy fifty years after Edward William Bok Books Reviews

This was one of the most interesting, extremely well written autobiography of the head of Women's Home Companion which my mother read during the depression. The author was the son of Dutch immigrants and knew how to work.
As a boy this was my favorite book. It took many years to find another copy of it, and through I was able to do so. It gives a unique glimpse in to turn of the century publishing, writing and the world. It also gives a excellent story of success, a true rags to riches story. Why Hollywood has never found this, I will never understand.
I loved it. He crafted a wonderful tale showing the heights a person can attain with hard work and moral ethics in our country.
At the same time Bok did not sugar coat the problems with our system but attempted (and in some cases succeeding) to make this land a better place.
I never knew how much I owed to this great man. I would recommend this book to everyone I meet.
This is a really good biography of a Dutch immigrant who came to America and made it on his own. My aunt graduated from 2 year college in 1936 and everyone who graduated received a copy of this book. My sister just read it & told me about it, and because it's my aunt's I wanted to read it, too.
Going to learn something from this book
Written in an old and first-person style, one enters into the thinking of the industrious mind and actions of this amazing man who "knew how to make friends" among the lowly and mighty of his age. He set the bar high in identifying his goals and strove to achieve them with insight, grace and style. A good study in "old fashioned American ingenuity!"
The book is excellent and enjoyable, but this printing is terrible. I have an early edition hardback, and wanted a paperback copy of the book to give to someone. I am returning this one. If you want the book, get the hardback instead, or the Cosimo Classics paperback version (https//www./gp/product/159605073X/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1).This one is missing parts of the original (including the Table of Contents, "An Explanation", "An Introduction of Two Persons", "Biographical Data", "The Expression of a Personal Pleasure", and the index). The font is way too small, and there is a large amount of wasted white space on each page.
This is the best autobiography I have ever read. I can’t believe I have never heard of Edward Bok before.
